GIY Song #24 is in the "forgotten classic" category. Let me re-introduce to you Meat Loaf's "Bat Out of Hell."
Who is Meat Loaf? That depends on who you ask. Some may only know him as the emotional older gent on Trump's "Celebrity Apprentice" from a year ago. Others might remember him as the the large-breasted thug on "Fight Club."
But most famously, Meat Loaf is a man of the stage. And I mean "stage" in just about every way possible. His career has spanned from rocker to musical theater actor to stand-up comedian. But what he's best known for can be summed up in four words: Bat out of Hell.
"Bat Out of Hell" (BOOH), is one of many early-career recordings from Meat Loaf, and his most popular. What I'm sharing here is the title track to the album.
So what is Meat Loaf's music like? Well, if KISS and Wagner made a love child, it would be something like Meat Loaf. I think most everyone has heard of him, but far fewer have actually listened to his music. If you've never actually heard the song BOOH, you're missing out on one of life's simple, and yet completely overindulgent, pleasures.
When you watch Meat Loaf, you can tell the dude is just having fun. Totally uninhibited. Just a big, sweaty dude belting out pure rock dripping in soul. Tell me how it gets better than that!? I'll say this much: If I EVER front a rock band, you can bet your denims that I'll wear a ruffly pirate shirt and hold a silk, red scarf.
